Since its inception, Beit Moriah has focused its efforts on improving education in Be’er Sheva. Our programs in daycare centers, kindergartens, and elementary schools have earned us prestigious government awards and have been replicated in approximately 70 other schools throughout Israel. Below, please find details of all our educational services.
Under the full supervision of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor, Beit Moriah manages five daycare centers in Be’er Sheva for children from as little as three months to two-and-a-half years old. These daycare centers provide young children with a safe and fun learning environment between the hours of 7:00 and 16:00 each day. Our experienced staff creates a homey atmosphere, providing ample personal attention to each and every child. The children participate in a variety of educational activities involving Jewish heritage, tradition, and the yearly cycle of festivals and holidays, and all lessons incorporate teaching techniques specified for early childhood development. Our daycare centers emphasize the importance of maintaining contact with parents. We provide parents with daily updates, as well as opportunities to attend lectures and participate in special parent/child activities. Currently, there are 250 children enrolled in these daycare centers.
Beit Moriah plays an integral role in the daily operation of 17 public kindergartens in Be’er Sheva for children aged 4-6. For our part, Beit Moriah offers spiritual inspiration and direction for special projects in these kindergartens, as well as funding for additional curricula. For example, students of Beit Moriah’s Beit Midrash visit these kindergartens daily, acting as mentors for the children and teaching lessons in Jewish studies during the morning hours. We also assist in the selection of principals and staff members for these institutions. Although these kindergartens are considered religious because of the additional programming provided by Beit Moriah, they are open to the entire community. In fact, 70% of the children attending these kindergartens come from non-religious backgrounds.
Beit Moriah is the proud sponsor of three Be’er Sheva elementary schools that teach a total of 1,300 students. Two of these schools – Moriah and Yosef Karo – have received awards from the Prime Minister and Ministry of Education (in 2002 and 2007, respectively). Beit Moriah began managing its first two schools at the request of the Ministry of Education and opened the third in a new neighborhood of Be’er Sheva. Beit Moriah staffed these schools with well-trained leaders and educators, and we continue to coach the schools’ principals on staff oversight to ensure prolonged success. Through our unique teaching and administrative techniques that incorporate elements of Jewish heritage and values, we have transformed these schools into award-winning institutions and models for education in Israel. Now, at the request of the Ministry of Education, we have become an active partner in a fourth elementary school in the Gimel neighborhood of Be’er Sheva, which had been on the verge of closing. On September 1, 2011, the school began its first full academic year under Beit Moriah’s supervision.
Computer and Internet Access
Run in conjunction with Israel’s Finance Ministry – our resource rooms are helping citizens of all ages and financial status learn how to use computers and the internet. We have many workshops that help children in schools, senior citizens, and those looking for jobs.
Midrasha (Curriculum Enrichment Programs)
In addition to the educational institutions we manage, Beit Moriah sponsors supplementary Jewish education curricula for 2,500 students in 22 other Be’er Sheva schools. These “midrasha” programs, as we call them, bring Jewish National Service girls to Be’er Sheva under the supervision of the Ministry of Education. The girls are trained to organize activities and teach courses on Jewish values and heritage in secular schools, providing a valuable bonus curriculum for the schools’ children.
